Arsenal Somewhat Closes The Gap

With Manchester United and Chelsea playing earlier than Arsenal last night, Arsenal knew that if United and The Blues were to lose, a win can close the gap for Arsenal. And that all happened.

With Fulham's captain, Danny Murphy, who is also an ex-Liverpool player, saying that they should do Liverpool a favour by beating Manchester United earlier this week, Fulham looked really good. Murphy converted a penalty in the first half for Fulham and late into the game, Fulham doubled their lead. And that is how the game ended with Fulham winning 2-0. The game also saw Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney sent off.

In London, a derby was played. Tottenham Hotspur hosted Chelsea. And all ends well, with Luca Modric scoring the only goal in the match to give Spurs a win. I may not like Tottenham but thanks to them.

And with both top teams losing, Arsenal knew they must win and Manuel Almunia saving Obefami Martins' penalty in the first half was pretty decisive for The Gunners. In the second half, Nicklas Bendtner scored. 13 seconds into the restart, Newscastle equalised. But Arsenal had the last say. In the space of 10 minutes after their first goal, Arsenal turn a goalless match into 1-3 with Abou Diaby and Samir Nasri scoring. And once again, Andrey Arshavin was influential.

Last night results also threw the title race wide open again. Liverpool will be playing tonight and if they win, they will be in the chase again.
